Runway 14-32 &
Taxiway M Rehab
Construction inspection and quality assurance for the rehabilitation of Runway 14-32 and Taxiway M at Indianapolis International Airport, paving performed inside overnight runway closures on an active commercial airfield.
The Challenge
Farah & Sons provided construction inspection and quality assurance services for the rehabilitation of Runway 14-32 and Taxiway M at Indianapolis International Airport. The project included the placement of FAA P-401 Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavement, airfield lighting upgrades, and compliance verification with FAA and Indianapolis Airport Authority requirements.
Because the work took place on an active commercial airport, major paving operations were performed during overnight runway closures, when air traffic control operations were suspended. During a single paving shift, approximately 3,000 tons of FAA P-401 asphalt were placed over an 11- to 12-hour period, demanding precise coordination between the contractor, airport operations, and inspection staff, with the runway back in service by morning.
Farah & Sons provided construction inspection, quality assurance testing oversight, quantity verification, and construction administration services to ensure the pavement met the stringent performance, density, smoothness, and quality standards required for airfield infrastructure.
